It seems to go farther to the floor and I'm having trouble getting it into reverse and 5th. I'm not sure if it's the clutch or something else. How hard is replacing the PTO Clutch on a John Deere 116 Lawn Mower?
It is a 116 John Deere Riding Lawn Mower, it runs great but whenever i try to engage the PTO the blades won't spin. On rare occasions it will spin but if i try to mow grass the blades stop turning, the repairman told me that it was most likely the PTO Clutch. There are three nuts looking at it from the bottom. Near each nut is a slot. You adjust the nut so that the gap in the slot is .012%26quot; with a feeler gauge. Are you sure that it is the clutch and not a bad belt or a missing spring on the tentioning pulley? If it is an electric clutch, they cost about $300.

This was probably not the best thing I could have done for my back.

I want to know how to fix this problem my self without paying the blood suckers that want to charge 55.00 an hour, they said I must have a leak someplace. How do I check for burnt clutch? I've been driving my standard '07 Eclipse for about 6-7 months, and I wanted to know if it's slipping or what so ever. This is my first standard car so I learned how to drive stick on it, also probably done some damage when I used to stall a lot. Is there any diagnostic tests I can use before taking it to a shop to check?How do I check for burnt clutch?the best indicator is how high the clutch has to be before it catches......AN experienced mechanic can drive it and tell you about how worn it is.......I have to say that being an 07 the clutch is probably ok unless you are really hard on it......clutches generally last ten-15 years under normal wear and tear.......good luck!!!

I own a vehicle with approximately 100,000 miles on the car. My clutch going out is about do and it has started to slip somewhat whenever I pull off the line. While I fully intend to bring it into the shop to get a replacement, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how I could extend the life of the clutch for a few thousand miles more?

You didn't say what vehicle you drive so I really can't quote you a price but if there is nothing wrong internally in your trans. all you have to replace is your clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throw out bearing. All of the items I listed come as a kit. Make sure it is the clutch though and not the slave or master cylinder if you have a hydraulic clutch. If one of those two has gone bad then you can just replace them. Some vehicles have an external slave cylinder outside the bell-housing on your transmission and some have an internal slave cylinder that is on the inside. If yours has an external slave cylinder then you won't even have to pull the transmission out at all but if it has an internal slave cylinder then you have to remove the trans. Bottom line get a third or fourth price quote before you have any shop work on it. An above all make sure they test drive and visually inspect your vehicle before you have them work on it at all. A good transmission shop will do this no charge and give you a price afterwards. You can't diagnose the problem with transmissions most of the time over the phone. Anybody who tells you what's wrong with your vehicle without driving/checking it out first is full of prunes. Well I determined through Yahoo Answers that the clutch fluid on my vehicle is most likely low, and people recommended that I should check the level. The thing is that I looked under the hood and I don't see anything labeled %26quot;clutch fluid%26quot; so it must not be obvious, and I have no idea how to do it.
