How can one tell if your hydrolic clutch needs replacement, or your transmission needs to be serviced?

I am having problems finding my gears sometimes, so there is something defnintely wrong with the hydrolic clutch. How can one tell if your hydrolic clutch needs replacement, or your transmission needs to be serviced?make sure you have fluid in the clutch master cylinder (a small reservoir close to the firewall, usually with a rubber cap).the slave cylinder is on the side of the transmission with one steel line going to it. look and see if you see fluid leaking from it, if so it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. if you are very low on fluid and have to add some, it may have gotton air in the line which will make the clutch pedal feel spongy. you will have to bleed the lines of any air. also if you replace the clutch master cylinder you will have to bleed it of air also. a manual for your car will detail the bleeding process...How can one tell if your hydrolic clutch needs replacement, or your transmission needs to be serviced?Hydraulic.

When was the last time the fluid was changed and bled?. They use brake fluid which traps water. Also it might be time for either one of the cylinders (Master and/or Slave) to be rebuilt.

  • How do I find out where my clutch fluid is leaking on my 85 Magna?

All of a sudden I have no clutch on my 85 Honda Magna v45. I bled the lines and still nothing. I want to know how to fix this problem my self without paying the blood suckers that want to charge 55.00 an hour, they said I must have a leak someplace. I cannot afford that price. How do I find out where my clutch fluid is leaking on my 85 Magna?Had the same problem on my gsxr-It was a bad gasket on the master cylinder. When I squeezed the clutch, fluid would seep out. Good luck. How do I find out where my clutch fluid is leaking on my 85 Magna?lay something clean and dry under the car, white sheet, white paper, something that fluid will show up on very easily. Get in and punk your clutch like a mad man. get out and see if there are any drips underneath. That might help you narrow down the area. How do I find out where my clutch fluid is leaking on my 85 Magna? You would have to thoroughly clean off the bottom of your car where the clutch is located, and then either leave it for awhile (to see if it leaks while standing), or drive it a short distance on a clean road (to avoid getting dirt on the area where it's leaking), and then examine it closely. It could be just a gasket that needs replacing.

How long should you wait for a clutch to hatch before considering it a dud?

Starlings laid a nest in my grill. The first egg was laid on May 11th, the last (4 total) on May 14th. I read somewhere that the eggs do not begin gestating until the clutch is complete and starling eggs take about 10 days, which would have been Wednesday, the 24th. The parents still come even though they are still unhatched. How long should you wait for a clutch to hatch before considering it a dud?It takes 40 days for them to hatch, not 10 so start from the day the last egg was laid and then count to 40 days. How long should you wait for a clutch to hatch before considering it a dud?You should wait until the parents give up. unfortunately the usual answer is that it will never 'clean itself'. The oil in the porous material used for the lining will hold there until you change it. Each time it slips it will glaze the friction plate more and more until it will let you down completely.

Best thing to do (if it is still fairly driveable) is to save the money until you can afford the new plate and get it changed as soon as possible.

Some cluches (though not many nowadays) are adjustable and tightening the spring tension can improve the grip, but even that will at best be only temporary.

Sorry, but you've just learned an expensive lesson...that grease, oils or diesel and clutches do not mix.

Good luck with making it last until you can spare the time (and the cash) to get it repaired.

  • What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?

I have a hydraulic clutch and I was wondering if anyone could give tips for starts/shifts/driving in general on how to save the clutch. I have a slight concern for the future of changing my clutch, as it is expensive and I would like to prolong it as long as possible.

I drive a 2001 VW GTI, with 57k miles. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?Learning to Rev-match will save lots of wear on your clutch. The majority of wear on a clutch disc is from the disc having to make up the difference between engine speed and transmission input shaft speed.

Using my 1987 Mazda RX-7 as an example, here's how you rev-match. Let's say I'm cruising along in 3rd gear at 2000rpm (around 30mph) and I want to shift down to 2nd. First, step on the clutch and pull it out of 3rd. With the clutch still in, rev to 3000 as you slot the shifter to 2nd. Then release the clutch and accelerate.

How high you need to rev depends on your transmission's gear ratios. It'll take some practice to get it right, but it'll be seamless when you do. To get an idea of what you need to rev to, I'd suggest taking your car out on an empty stretch of road and keeping it at 2000rpm in 4th gear, then downshifting to 3rd gear and maintaining the same actual speed. You'll find out exactly what the difference is then (mine is 50%, or 1000rpm in this case). In my car, 4th gear at 2000rpm is the same speed as 3rd gear at 3000rpm. 4th gear at 3000rpm would be 3rd at 4500rpm and so on. Your car might be geared differently, so you should take a notebook with you and write down the rpm differences between gears. And most of all, keep your starting speed consistent. I used 2000rpm and found my car has a 50% difference between gears (it goes up to 3000rpm on downshift)

Once you got that down, you might try giving heel-and-toe a try. Basically, you are rev-matching on a downshift while braking.

    Step on the clutch

    Step on brakes,

Downshift and rev-match using the heel of your right foot, while braking with your toe

Release all 3 pedals and accelerateWhat are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?DON'T use the clutch to brake. Don't downshift when you are stopping, just shift into neutral and brake normally. Brakepads are a lot cheaper and easier to replace than a clutch.

If you're willing to slightly reduce the life of your transmission, you can shift without using the clutch at all. There are shift-points where the gears match up naturally. Once you find them, you can just quickly jump up gears without the clutch. Having a tachometer really helps to find your shift points. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?thats a good question. usually clutchs last for a long time ( say every 50k or so ) but it also depends on how you drive.

when starting, usually you will have the car in 1st or second gear when parked, so when you start it, you can just push the clutch to start it. if you were to shift to neutral before starting the car, the clutch wont engage, and therefore adding a slight amount of life too it.

also, upshifting, you have to shift as smooth as possible, when the engine rpm, and trans rpm are about the same. don't give it too much gas when up shifting.

the same applied to down shifting. do it as smooth as possible.

when stopping at a red light, the less you have the clutch pressed in while in gear the better, so shift to neutral if you are going to be at a light for sometime. even when the clutch is pressed in, there is a slight friction going on, not much, but in the long run, it makes a difference. What are some techniques/tips for driving to lower harm to the clutch?Michael Hunt has the idea to not use your clutch, and it is a good idea. You don't need to look at your rpm gage, it can get you into trouble. Just listen to your engine, it will tell you when to change gears with out the clutch. Most of the time you will start in 1st gear, just go fast enough to get your car rowling. At this time you will use the clutch, now with out the clutch pull it out of 1st and go to 2nd. Don't do it fast just do it easy, now give it gas till to YOU it sounds like time to change to 3rd, pull it out of 2nd - no clutch and go to 3rd. Now if you can't get it out of 2nd slow it down a little, then see if you can pull it out of gear. Now to gear down, don't use your clutch. If in your highest gear, just slow down some pull it out of that gear, to go to your next highest gear, run your rpm up till it falls into that gear. Because as you run your rpm up and trying to push it into gear, (not hard) just hard enough to go into gear, if your rpm is high enough it will just fall into gear. You will learn in time, just keep trying.

How much would it cost to replace a clutch in a Honda Accord?

My niece just bought a Honda Accord 1996 and it needs a new clutch, My friend who works on cars said he would do it for $600 including parts. She has a friend who said he will do it for $150 parts included. I don't trust her friend. So my question is....is $600 too much to pay an experienced mechanic replace the clutch? How much would it cost to replace a clutch in a Honda Accord?hi, i just had to do a clutch in my car. I have a few questions, are u just buying the clutch disc or the clutch kit. the kit comes with everything clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, alignment tool. if its the clutch disc then it will be cheap like $50, $60 bucks, the kit is a little more expensive like $150-$200 bucks maybe $125 if ur lucky. now thats on a stock clutch kit. but proformace clutch kit which is what i bought is like $250-$500 i paid $350. But, now lets get to the point $150 sounds like hes buying the stock clutch kit and putting it in with no extra cost meaning free labor. Now the other guy for $600 sounds like hes buying the stock clutch kit and $300 for labor. Now replacing the clutch is not very hard but it take alot time to do. Because you have to take the transmission out and pull the clutch out and replace it with ur new one. But if ur low on cash and the guy can do it for $150 that will be ur best bet, but on the other hand he might not install it correctly and u might run into problem later down the road so ask if he had on clutches before. hopefully this help sorry about the long story. good luck with your car.

How do you adjust a clutch cable on a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gs?

It is harder than normal to shift into gears and i was told you adjust the cable on my clutch. Should I loosen or tighten? How do you adjust a clutch cable on a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gs?2000 Eclipse doesn't use a cable clutch system. It runs off hydraulics (ie- clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder). Flushing and bleeding the clutch fluid and change the fluid in the trans. How do you adjust a clutch cable on a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gs?Like he said, it is all clutch fluid. Buy some dot 3 brake fluid, and fill your master cylinder up. You are going to have to look on your transmission, there should be a little nipple type looking thing, and you should be able to actually hook a small air hose up to it. I used a clear hose that i found that would fit it correctly. Then what you do is take a item that can hold liquids, I.E. Gatorade bottle, and fill that up with brake fluid. have one end of the hose on your trans, and the other in the cup/bottle, and make sure it is submerged under completely. Have someone go in the car, and depress the clutch completely to the floor, and tell them to lift it up slowly. when it is completely up, put the cap back on the trans, and you should have a firm clutch pedal.

  • How much is a new clutch for a acura integra?

How much is a new clutch for a 99' acura integra? How often do you typically need to change it?How much is a new clutch for a acura integra? We replaced the clutch in my son's '94 Integra last year. He bought the parts but I recall it was in the $200-$300 range.

Replacement was an adventure, harder than any other I have done. Most of it was pretty straightforward, but because of the shape of things the bellhousing had to rotate about 30 degrees to drop it out the bottom (jackstands provided enough room). That wasn't so bad, but it meant the transmission jack could not be used and that was a big problem when it came time to remount it. Normally there is a need to get it lined up vertically and wiggle to get the shaft in the pilot bearing, but in this case it had to rotate too. I actually strained a muscle in my face getting it lined up - it hurt for days. One more complication - we had a devil of a time getting the pilot bearing out until we realized it came out the back side of the flywheel. The flywheel has to come off and then it is easy.

His clutch was not slipping, but it made a grinding noise when the clutch pedal was depressed in gear. One of the springs had worn through the cage and was scraping on the flywheel or pressure plate. That seems to be a pretty common failure mode for Acura clutches. How much is a new clutch for a acura integra? It's a hydraulic clutch so it'll become very very difficult to shift while the engine is on though you could still move from gear to gear when the engine is off.

If you're getting close to 120,000 miles, it would be a good idea to order an OEM clutch kit from the Internet to keep in your trunk so you only have to pay for labour. You'll get the kit for about half the price the mechanic would charge you for it, I think you can get one for about $170 on the Internet. Make sure, it's the kit and not just the clutch because while it's all open, you might a well change out the pressure plate too.

It's a good idea to go to a mechanic that specializes in transmissions as it's all very heavy and unwieldy. I've got 177,000 miles on my 96 Acura integra GSR and I'm on the second clutch, I plan to start carrying a clutch kit around when I get close to 240,000 miles. I think the first was changed sometime after 125,000 miles but there was no warning of it going out. My previous car was an 88 Civic Si which has a cable clutch so I was expecting some warning but this hydraulic clutch was literally one day it was normal and the next it was nearly impossible to shift.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to just change it out at the 120,000 mile mark since unlike a cable clutch, you can't estimate how much clutch you have left.

There's no point in getting a racing clutch, they're harder to shift with and they wear out a lot faster.

What really wears the clutch out is feathering it for low speed control such as creeping around a parking lot or inching up in stopped traffic. With a standard it's best to either stop or go, not crawl around. Fast starts only wear out the clutch if you've revved up the engine a lot but unless you're street racing, it's the slow speed stuff that does your clutch in.How much is a new clutch for a acura integra?Clutches don't need to be changed until it wears out and starts slipping. How soon that happens depends on how you treat your clutch. If you drop your clutch and race your engine, it will wear out sooner. Baby it and it'll last. I don't have an Acura, but my Toyota truck has 122,000 miles and it's still on its original clutch. How much is a new clutch for a acura integra? You can get a new clutch set at AutoZone for $215.99 - $271.99. You only have to change it if it's slipping.

How to keep working the clutch plate for a longer period ? What should be the safety measures ?

How to keep working the clutch plate for a longer period ? What should be the safety measures ?How to keep working the clutch plate for a longer period ? What should be the safety measures ?Keep your foot off the clutch pedal as much as possible and you will be doing the best. However, I must admit that I almost always keep the pedal depressed when at a light and yet I have never seen premature clutch wear. I have replaced clutches that came with used cars, but never wore out one I installed. After 150k I have replaced a clutch as matter of maintenance but the lining still had almost all of its thickness.

My conclusion is the complaints about premature clutch wear are all coming from the people who race, make jackrabbit starts, violent shifts and other noisy habits. It you drive sanely, the clutch is never a problem. One other point, if it is adjustable it must be kept in adjustment--otherwise, trouble.

How much for a clutch kit to be installed?

I have a 1998 Chevy S-10 4cyl 2.2L and in NC about how much would it be to get a new clutch kit installed on my truck? I just want OEM parts nothing fancy. Estimate should include parts and labor. Thanks! How much for a clutch kit to be installed?i work at a small shop and our labor charge is $55/hour. labor would be around $550-600.00. (s-10's suck to work on. no clearance) parts would be $250-300.00 for clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. that would be for parts from the local parts store. OEM parts from the dealer would be more. that's approx. $800-900.00 if nothing else is found. you might find a small local shop of a tranny shop in your area that is cheaper. many places mark up labor when giving an estimate expecting there will be a problem. we don't. if we find something we would call you and let you come in and look at what we found. no surprises here!. find a good local mechanic by asking your friends and family. then keep him. someone that knows your vehicle history is much better than a stranger. good luck. How much for a clutch kit to be installed?best way would be to call local repair shops and window shop.they will give you an estimate and you can get an accurate price range from that.thats what i do.How much for a clutch kit to be installed? My husband does alot of mech work he says it will probably be between $400 and $500. He says the clutch kit itself is only about $150 the rest will be labor. How much for a clutch kit to be installed? The labor times vary slightly, but you are looking at 9.8 hours and up in labor time... I don't know what the labor rates are around you, so you will have to figure that part yourself. That is book time, most shops will stick to that, or very close. I am sure you could find some type of shop that will be much cheaper and not as good of course.

As for the parts, the prices range of course, depending on the actual parts... but a Luk kit is over 350.00 dollars list price. I don't know what the OE part on this is, or the cost. Then you have the fluid, possibly flywheel, or resurface, etc. Without knowing exactly what you need, it's hard to give an estimate. I'd say you are looking at around 1200 dollars, give or take.

You should really call around you area, find out how much for the inspection and an idea of what it might cost. No one can tell you for sure without seeing the vehicle though, that pretty much requires a tear-down, which is a good portion of the labor to do the whole job.

So the best you can really do, is call around and find a shop that will give you a rough estimate of the costs, but tell you they need to see it before they can give you an exact estimate. Then they can tell you the tear-down/inspection fees, and the price range of the total job, depending on what is found.

How much to replace the clutch of an N reg VW Polo?

The clutch is starting to slip a bit and I need to know how much to fix it! Thanks. How much to replace the clutch of an N reg VW Polo?Clutch approx 100 and it takes about 3 to 4 hours labour.

Definately go for a Valeo or LUK Clutch. Both of these are premier lines and shouldn't give any warranty problems. Try to avoid main dealers because their labour rate is crazy 50 - 100 and up per hour. Small garage might work for 30 - 40 per hour.

My advice is to price for the complete job including parts, this way if there is any trouble with the clutch when fitted, the garage is responsible for the labour costs for repair. Please note they will take a slight cut at the price of the clutch. Price it first so you know if you're being ripped off.How much to replace the clutch of an N reg VW Polo?Sounds like a fair price. Hope it works out for you.

How much estimate would it cost to replace clutch cylinder parts and labor and all for a 97 Mitsubishi gallant, 4cyl, hydraulic clutch. How much does it cost to replace clutch cylinder?Best way is to call your local tranny shop or dealer. I don't know what the prices for the clutch cylinders for Mitsubishi are and also consider if you have both a clutch master and clutch slave cylinder because you may need to replace only one or both. Parts as far as I know range anywhere from 45-120 and labor probably 2 hours so another 200 or so. This is an absolute ballpark guess but I would think around 400 is safe.

And make sure you're talking about the clutch cylinder, not the clutch booster or clutch itself. How do i go about bleeding out a hydraulic clutch on a 1998 ford ranger?

2wd, 4 cylinder 2.5L, manual transmission. clutch doesn't seem to be slipping but clutch pedal is low to ground. have to pull back on the pedal before pressing it to get it to start or shift into gear sometimes. does this sound like a cylinder problem rather than the entire clutch system problem? could air in the lines be causing this problem as well? How do i go about bleeding out a hydraulic clutch on a 1998 ford ranger? Before you bleed a slave cylinder (clutch) or a master cylinder (brakes), you should %26quot;gravity%26quot; bleed them first.

To do this, make sure the reservoir is full, set the cap on the on the reservoir but do not tighten. Then open the bleeder screw and let gravity push the air out until you have have all fluid coming out. On brakes, do one bleeder at a time, farthest bleeder first.

This is very similar to using a Vacuum bleeder which %26quot;sucks%26quot; the air out of the bleeder, but I think its less of a mess. I have done it this way for 20 years and it works the best. If done right you dont need anyone to pump the pedal although it doesn't hurt to do that last. How do i go about bleeding out a hydraulic clutch on a 1998 ford ranger?time for new m/cylinder I'd guess. they %26amp; brake m/c's last abt 14yrsHow do i go about bleeding out a hydraulic clutch on a 1998 ford ranger?Check the cylinder first and if that's OK check the operation of the clutch. How do i go about bleeding out a hydraulic clutch on a 1998 ford ranger?sounds more like a bent pedal cluster or broken or loose return spring......

as for bleeding u do it same as brakes......pump the pedal 10-15 times hold it to the floor while some 1 else cracks open the bleed screw and then re-tightens it......then release pedal and repeat as needed....checking to make sure there's plenty of fluid in master every now and then....How do i go about bleeding out a hydraulic clutch on a 1998 ford ranger?Yes it does sound like a hydraulic problem.. Best way for me to bleed my clutch is to first make sure your reservoir is full of dot 3 brake fluid.. Then have another person pump the clutch pedal 5 times while your under the car with a wrench ready to bleed the system.. When he hits the 5th time have him hold the clutch down to the floor and tell ya he is ready.. then you release the bleeder and air should bubble out.. I do this 3 times and on the last(this only applies if you have a slave cylinder) you open the bleeder and push back on the clutch fork into the slave and without the clutch arm going back you close the bleeder.. This will get all of the possible air that was put into the slave to be pushed out of the system.. After that you might need to do a master cyl adjustment if you gained nothing.. It does sound like air in the lines... very common in the cold..

What makes a dirtbike clutch slip and how does it happen?

Top part explains it. What causes a dirtbike clutch to slip, and how does it happen?

YZ125 is the bike. What makes a dirtbike clutch slip and how does it happen?Simple answer - the clutch plates wear down and lose their grabbing ability.

Every time you pull the clutch lever, the clutch plates are slipping and sliding against each other.

If you continuously rub a pencil eraser against a piece of paper, it's going to wear down.

Not to be rude, but how could a Top Contributor in the Motorcycle section ask a question like this? What makes a dirtbike clutch slip and how does it happen?Cable too tight

    Plates worn

Wrong lubricantWhat makes a dirtbike clutch slip and how does it happen?you can add to the other answers answer-someone riding the clutch lever repeatedly way too long. Clutches can slip because the cable is out of adjustment, the internals get weak or worn and because of neglect or abuse of the owner or rider, no matter if intentional or not.

What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?

I drive a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon and I just replaced my clutch. But I'm having a little difficulty in shifting the car in and out of gears mostly reverse. The mechanic said that I should replace a clutch cylinder. Should it be the clutch master cylinder or the clutch slave cylinder. I don't what the difference is and how much would it cost to replace the item and have a mechanic install it?What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?Clutch master cylinder in on the firewall, attached to the pedal. The slave is at the other end, either outside of the bellhousing pushing on the clutch lever or inside the bellhousing as part of the throughout bearing. Is the fluid low? Does it need bled? IS the eyelet on the pedal that goes to the clutch master cylinder worn? Is the pedal either low and goes to the floor easy or is it hard and feels like it is binding? What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?well i would replace the slace cylinder, not the clucth cylinder, becuz if ur havin a hard time shifting,it would result in a slave cylinder,i couldnt tell u how much one would cost, becuz i dont know the size motor in it.What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?you may just need to have your clutch linkage adjustedWhat is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?If the mechanic didn't tell you which it means he didn't look so he cant know it needs replacing.

I suggest having him bleed the system first, any competent machanic should have done this already. What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?When you push on the pedal, you're pushing the clutch master cylinder. The hydraulic oil from the master cylinder makes the slave cylinder move, which pushes the throwout bearing, disengaging the clutch. What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?it is not that expensive, Master cylinder i think is the one you need. What is the difference between a CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER and a CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER?As has been said, the master is nearest or connected to the pedal and operates the slave, which is nearest to the gearbox, get a friend to operate the clutch pedal while you watch one cylinder at a time, one of them needs either replacing or just re kitting, you will easily tell which, the faulty one will be as it will almost certainly be oily and dirty, and will not travel to it`s full extent.

Hope this is helpful, good luck.

What causes a clutch in a manual transmission to burn out. What actually happens inside the case?

How does the eventual wear of the clutch occur? What causes a clutch in a manual transmission to burn out. What actually happens inside the case?Slippage (or more specifically, the friction that is created by it) is what wears a clutch. And guess what? Clutches are designed to be able to slip when they need to.

Alright, since some **** decided to give me a thumbs down, and I'm back home, I will elaborate:

Fully engaged and 'fully disengaged' are the only places at where a clutch doesn't slip, create friction, burn, and wear out (the wear process). Everywhere in between these two points it will be, at varying rates depending on how close to the sweet spot you have the pedal depressed.

So the longer you leave the clutch partially engaged, the longer it is being worn. You let it slip for too long and you'll roast the clutch and glaze the pressure plate like a thanksgiving turkey. Solution is simple; use the clutch smoothly but promptly, don't kick the clutch in an attempt to shift really quickly because you'll bugger the throwout bearings, and learn how to shift gears properly - hell, learn how to rev match and double de clutch too while you're at it. They're good skills to have.

You can also encounter wear just by sitting at an interesection with the car in gear and clutch in for too long, but this isn't as bad as riding the clutch while you're driving.

But don't worry, like I said before clutches are meant to slip (to some degree). What causes a clutch in a manual transmission to burn out. What actually happens inside the case?the clutch plate rubs on the pressure plate and flywheel when engaging...friction equals wearWhat causes a clutch in a manual transmission to burn out. What actually happens inside the case? The clutch is a wear item just like brakes. The material it is made from rubs on the flywheel to engage the engine to the transmission. Everytime you push in and release the clutch pedal, a little of this material wears away. How fast this happens depends on the ability of the operator. Overreving your engine or riding the clutch accelerate the wear. What causes a clutch in a manual transmission to burn out. What actually happens inside the case?the cause of most clutch wear is what is called riding the clutch, where a driver sitting at somewhere like traffic lights depressing the clutch peddle to a point where you do not move forward or backwards on a slope without using the hand/parking brake, or resting your foot on the clutch peddle while driving, but general wear and tear from changing gear is normally minimal and with average annual mileage driving a clutch should last 10 + yearsWhat causes a clutch in a manual transmission to burn out. What actually happens inside the case?for 1 thing if you have a rear main seal leaking then oil can get on the clutch and ruin the clutch and another thing is riding with your foot on the clutch and jumping the clutch can roughen it up.

How do you repressurize the clutch after draining the fluid?

My dad drained the clutch fluid on my sisters 5-speed 1994 toyota corolla DX today. He had trouble draining it, but eventually got it all out. Only problem is he's feeding it back through the line he drained it from, filled the master cylinder, but cant figure out how to pressurize it.

The clutch pedal travels to the floor with no resistance, anybody know how to put the pressure back in correctly? How do you repressurize the clutch after draining the fluid?Takes two people. One in the car and one under the hood. If there's a bleed valve on the slave cylinder, pump the clutch, crack it open. Close the bleed valve, pump the clutch and hold, open the bleed valve. Cose the bleed valve, pump the clutch and hold, open the bleed valve. Top off the clutch master cylinder. Repeat until the clutch works normally.

Some don't have a bleed valve. In that case, crack the line loose at the slave instead and use the above procedure. How do you repressurize the clutch after draining the fluid?on the front of your tranny is the slave clyinder theres a bleeder screw on it have someone pump the clutch pedal then hold it to the floor loosten bleeder to release the air tighten bleeder repeat until no air comes out and fluid comes instead make sure you check the fluid level during the process or you will have to start overHow do you repressurize the clutch after draining the fluid?HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BLEEDING

If any maintenance on the clutch system was performed or the system is suspected of containing air, bleed the system. Brake fluid will remove the paint from any surface. If the brake fluid spills onto any painted surface, wash it off immediately with soap and water.

Fill the clutch reservoir with brake fluid. Check the reservoir level frequently and add fluid as needed.

Connect one end of a vinyl tube to the clutch release cylinder bleeder plug and submerge the other end into a container half-filled with brake fluid.

Slowly pump the clutch pedal several times.

Have an assistant hold the clutch pedal down and loosen the bleeder plug until fluid starts to run out of the bleeder plug. You will notice air bubbles mixed in with the fluid.

Repeat the last two steps until all the air bubbles are removed from the system.

Tighten the bleeder plug when all the air is gone.

Refill the master cylinder to the proper level as required.

    Check the system for leaks.

  • How do you measure your clutch/chain size on a 5hp Briggs engine?

It is a horozontal shaft 5 hp Briggs and Straton and has a 3/4 inch bore clutch. I need to know what chain size and clutch to get if the drive gear has 60 teeth and has a 7 inch diameter. How do you measure your clutch/chain size on a 5hp Briggs engine? It will probably be a #35 chain. As far as the clutch goes, it will depend what you are using it for. The more teeth on the clutch sprocket, the higher the gear ratio will be. The lower # of teeth on the clutch sprocket, the more pulling power but less speed. For more pulling power, go to a larger rear sprocket.

What does it mean to burn out the clutch? And how much would it cost to fix?

I plan to buy, and learn to drive a car with a manual transmission, but I'm a bit worried about the cost to replace the clutch over and over. From what I know, I'm assuming when you, %26quot;burn out the clutch,%26quot; your in fact burning out the clutch disks. So about how much would it cost to replace the disks, as opposed to replacing the entire clutch? What does it mean to burn out the clutch? And how much would it cost to fix?Actually there are four parts to a clutch assembly: Flywheel, clutch friction disc, Pressure plate, throwout bearing and clutch fork.

Depending upon the severity of a %26quot;burned out clutch disc%26quot; there usually are two other major problems. When the disc slips and wears out excessively excess heat is transferred to the flywheel and particularly the pressure plate. The pressure plate has a series of coil springs or what's called a diaphragm spring set-up. If a clutch is subjected to too much slipping the pressure plate heats distorting the face and taking the tension out of the clutch diaphragm or springs.

If you change the clutch disk before slippage happens that's all you'll need to do. Depending what type of car you plan to buy clutches will last 50,000 miles with no problem. If you hot rod a clutch by side stepping the clutch petal for fast starts you'll be buying entire drive train parts. What does it mean to burn out the clutch? And how much would it cost to fix?its a once u have it apart you replace all clutch parts...large part of cost is labour... 400 to800.USA dollars...depending on quality of new parts and labour cost. What does it mean to burn out the clutch? And how much would it cost to fix? Most clutch designs are a single plate style. Most are around $100-150 for an OEM clutch plate. If the car is a rear wheel drive, low to mid horsepower, just replacing the clutch plate will be OK, but.. if the auto is high horsepower or a front wheel drive save the second shop call and also replace the pressure plate $200 %26amp; throwout bearing $20.

Most newer cars have a hydraulic clutch pedal connection rather than a mechanical adjustment linkage. With a mechanical linkage you could keep adjusting the linkage to adapt for clutch wear %26amp; use up most of the clutch plate pad. With the hydraulic style there is no adjustment. ie ...must change it more often. City stop %26amp; go, stopping on hills(slipping clutch to start) use up the plate more quickly.

In a front wheel drive auto, the engine %26amp; trans sits transverse %26amp; is packaged real tight to other stuff, you almost have to 'drop' the engine to do a clutch repair.(think twice as much as a rear drive in labor) When you change one buy a good one(do not go cheap) or you will be doing it again real soon.

How does a motorcycle clutch get burned out?

I am trying to figure out what not to do to avoid burning out my clutch. How does a motorcycle clutch get burned out?Dont slip it.

If used correctly it should not burn out.How does a motorcycle clutch get burned out?yup dont slip it and dont use it in corners. i have to disagree with the first guy though. you could ride a bike perfect but im pretty sure the clutches will burn out eventually anyways. How does a motorcycle clutch get burned out?The usual way to burn out a clutch is to be riding with your fingers on the clutch lever.

along with wind resistance your finger is just slightly engaging the clutch

Not so you would hear the revs go up but enough to get heat friction in the plates.

Nearly all riders ride with one or two fingers on the clutch lever.

the difference is resting on top of the lever, not wrapped around it.

Racing clutches only really last a couple of starts anyway, plates are too thin.

Like the others say, dont slip it.

    either in - or out.

especially if your using a slipper.

I agree normal use will not burn a clutch out.

used properly (not racing clutches) they will out last the bike. How does a motorcycle clutch get burned out?dont drop the clutch but you can use it in the coners if you want just do it rightHow does a motorcycle clutch get burned out?when starting our if you drag it out a long time rather than short and to the point it will shorten the life of it. also if you just ride the clutch while riding it will burn it. clutches are made to take abuse and any real rider will use it in cornering and to keep traction so dont worry if you are using it to ride! also depending on how much power the bike has effects how much you have to replace them, some small bore bikes will never burn a clutch up where alot of horsepower causes increased wear on all the parts in the bike. so dont ride it, and short starts will increase the life, but eventually you will need to replace it. when you hold in the clutch and the rear tire wont roll freely, or you cant start the bike in gear while holding in the clutch lever, then its probably time to replace it.

Cost to fix throw-out bearing on my 89 Toyota Corolla?

I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla 5-speed manual transmission. I will eventually have to replace the clutch, that's another story. I need to know how much it will cost to replace/fix the Throw-out bearing.

Thanks!Cost to fix throw-out bearing on my 89 Toyota Corolla?I believe that on your Toyota the engine and transmission must be completely removed from the car to replace the throwout bearing. The labor charge will probably be about $1,000 to do that. You may as well replace the clutch and pressure plate at the same time because the labor would only be a few dollars more than the throwout bearing alone and the parts are inexpensive compared to the labor.Cost to fix throw-out bearing on my 89 Toyota Corolla?Should be about $200Cost to fix throw-out bearing on my 89 Toyota Corolla? If you buy a clutch kit and throw-out bearing you're looking at around $300 depending of course on what kind of clutch kit you get.

After that the labor will take about 4-5 hours... so the price will depend on where you live.

Mechanics are anywhere from $40-$100 bucks per hour depending on the area.

If you're in a metro area... expensive... if you're in the middle of nowhere... cheaper.
