i recently took the engine and transmission apart in order to replace my clutch. how ever i cant seem to get them lined back up, and close enough together to bolt them in. Any hint's or tips?How do you line up a 200ci mustang engine and transmission in order to after you put the clutch back in?did you center the clutch with a alignment tool first? this has to be done before you install the transmission, they can be bought at any parts store.. if you can't get one, it can be done using the transmission, just leave off the bell housing in this step.. when you are finally ready to install the trans, put it in gear and spin the tailshaft back and forth as you slide it in, it has to match up with the clutch splines to slide in..
added: if you loaded the pilot bushing with grease, the shaft won't go in either.. I've used this method to remove the pilot bushing..How do you line up a 200ci mustang engine and transmission in order to after you put the clutch back in?If you can not get them closer than an inch or so, then your input shaft is not going into the pilot bearing in the crank. When you had this all apart, did you replace the pilot bearing? There were 3 different size bearing used on the Mustangs. use a clutch alignment tool to keep the clutch centered while you tighten the pressure plate bolts and you will be able to connect the tranny.How do you line up a 200ci mustang engine and transmission in order to after you put the clutch back in?You will need to line it all up with a splined shaft before sliding the tranny in. I don't know if you can buy or rent these, since a friend of mine has all this stuff and let me use his. If you can get it at least close enough on any edge, use the bolts to pull them together, or use some kind of bar to pry in a way..
Be creative..somethings are just PITA and require some out-of-the-box thinking!
