First, make certain both surfaces are squeaky clean. Next, purchase a non-hardening gasket cement such as Permatex #2. Apply a thin coat to clutch cover. Then apply the gasket. Apply a thin coat to the engine case. I let the cement sit for about 5 to 10 minutes to get a little tacky. Then bolt the cover to the engine casing. That's how I apply gaskets to my motorcycle and large industrial gear boxes.
Good LuckHow do you properly put a clutch cover gasket on a honda dirtbike?Lay the bike on its side, turn the wheel fully to the right, and rest the end of the bar on a small stand or stool so the bike is propped up using the bar end as leverage, clutch cover side up, wipe all the excess gasket sealer from the case, and clean it free of oil residue. I usually fit the gasket to the cover and run the bolts through the holes and set it down on the engine. The bolts will keep the gasket from falling off, and keep it straight. Tap all the bolts in finger tight, and then progressively tighten them in a crossed pattern so the case goes on completely straight. Make sure the bolts are torqued to spec using a small torque wrench.
