How do I know if my clutch is going out?

I have a 1985 Saab 900 S, and the clutch pedal is feeling far softer than I ever recall it being. Also, sometimes it seems that I have to push the clutch pedal all the way down, before I can shift gears. How do I know if my clutch is going out?Clutch thrust bearing might be knackered plus cluth plate also clutch is possibly worn out, or it could be clutch cable or if its hydraulic - master cylinder is worn out eg air in system or leaking piston etc. Id have to have a look :) but I hate working on cars cause I do our car maintenance and overhauls plus friends. How do I know if my clutch is going out?one word :you need a new clutch plate (disk clutch)

or the whole thing is a loose clutch connection ,so it need just an adjustement in this case.

did you checked the clutch oil reservoir,is the jear jump while driving,is there a lack of power when the RPM is high and there is no speed.it is a 85 saab so the best way is a new clutch work and change the tranny oil .and the diaphragm.bearing too .you have two one between the engine and the tranny and another one in the plate a small one .How do I know if my clutch is going out?well i would recomend u pushing the clutch pedall all the way down from the start, but for ur answer if the u can find out by pressing the clutch and if it feels like it smells then u got a prob. ( burned cluth i mean )How do I know if my clutch is going out?Its probably the clutch pressure plate springs becoming weak Do the engine revs go up when you climb a hill ?
