How can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger?

I tried to bleed the system and very little brake fluid comes out and the reservoir is full the clutch pedal has very little resistance and i cannot put in gear when engine is runningHow can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger? The way you describe the problem, it can only be the master cylinder not returning all the way.

This can be due to swollen seals or maybe not enough free play at the pedal.

Most likely swollen seals or broken/ binding return spring. How can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger?Sound like it's cactus. You can prob hear the m/cyl bypass the fluid. If not, disconnect fluid line at the m/cylinder and see it it can be made pump out oil at high pressure-if not-replace it. Stainless steel re-sleeving is best solution. Kitting is not much use when they're %26gt;14yo-the corrosion kills them. ditto all other hydraulics. Slave failure indicated by leaks, oil under rubber dust seals. How can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger? The slave cylinder would ususally (almost always) leak into the bellhousing if it has failed. If you are sure all the air is out of the system you can try disconnecting the line from the slave cylinder and step lightly on the clutch to see if it tries to force fluid out of the line. If I recall correctly it has a quick connect fitting and it should self seal when disconnected.

If you have the type that seals shut when disconnected, the seal should prevent you from pushing the pedal down.

If the line is sealed at the end but the pedal goes down you have a bad clutch master cylinder.

WARNING: Do not clamp the line and pump the clutch while the slave is connected or the slave will push all the way out and blow the piston out. This will be followed by a rush of fluid from the belhousing. oops! How can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger?I would replace both of them since the system is only as strong as the weakest part, The fluid is brake fluid so it needs to be renewed as well. How can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger?Try pumping the pedal to see if it builds resistance If it does probably a bad slave cylinder. If not, pull carpet back on floorboard and check for fluid under the carpet, which means bad master cylinder. If reservoir ran out of fluid you probably have air in the lines and that system is extremely hard to bleed. How can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger?you have one of the harder vehechles to bleed first open bleeder then depress and hold pedal to floor with something then keep resavoir full till fluids running clear close bleeder check pedal this is the easiest way to bleed a rangerHow can you tell if you slave cylinder or master cylinder for clutch is bad on a 1995 Ford Ranger?I'd take it to a reputable repair facility and let them diagnose which one is bad, other than that you are just guessing.
