I have a 1720 cub cadet the elec clutch began to slip. how much should i tighten the clutch if at all?

when the clutch slips the elec pto switch will shut off on its own and will not stay on unless i hold it on or let the mower cool down.I have a 1720 cub cadet the elec clutch began to slip. how much should i tighten the clutch if at all?The electric clutch on my sears says to adjust the three nylon locknuts until the space between clutch plate and rotor measures .012%26quot; at all slot location cut in the side of the brake plate. That is all it says other than take it to the dealer. I have looked at mine and it is easy to find the nylon nuts and the slots. I am guessing here that they all use the same clutch. I know that they cost quiet a bit, around $250.00 Hope this helps some.

How do you change the clutch on a 2000 Toyota Solara SE V6 Manual?

Can you either guide me or forward me detailed instructions on how to install a manual clutch for a 2000 Solara V6? My girls cars' down and I'm broke and DIY is the only way to go!How do you change the clutch on a 2000 Toyota Solara SE V6 Manual?http://www.car-stuff.com/mmparts/toyota-

this car is FWD

you will have to

remove the axles

remove the transmission

change the clutchHow do you change the clutch on a 2000 Toyota Solara SE V6 Manual?first you gotta be good with cars somewhat. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and hit you with a shopping list first. You'll need a good tool set, lots of sockets, all metric, probably no std. since it's a yota.

2 jacks(1 to support engine, one to use to pull out trans, it's kinda heavy, it helps for breaks)

Pair of Jack stands, 4 is even better

Seal puller or pliers(change the axle seals, I didn't and had a bad leak so take my advice.)

New clutch kit(rockauto.com has awesome deals)

Trans fluid, probably dexron mercon III, usually is.

Drip pan.

Raise the front end of the car, support it along the frame rails, get it as high as you can, nothing sucks worse than not having enough room.

Pull off the front wheels. Unbolt the calipers and tie up to the top of the fenderwells, specifically the driver side since the trans will come out of that side. You can either remove the entire steering knuckle and shock/spring or leave it, it won't be in the way too much.

Under the hood, take out the batter(free up some room).

Anything you feel would get in your way, if you can get all the bolts out of the top of the transmission then great.

Feel around the transmission and disconnect any wiring. I believe there are 3. Vehicle speed sensor, reverse lights, and speedometer, could be only 2 if VSS and speedo are on the same, with new cars they usually are. Remove the nut that is on the front axle, usually a big 30+mm socket is required. A 3 jaw puller is a good tool to have so you can push out the splined axle from the hub. This will then allow you to yank out the CV axles. You'll probably have an intermediate shaft that idles on a bearing attached to the engine block. That should come off too. The idea is to get anything touching the transmission off of it...you knew that. You'll probably need to remove some of the inder fender lining, often there are acess panels, but who knows. I just assume you can figure that stuff out, if not then don't bother with this project. Anyway, back to the topic. At this point the only things attached to the transmission should be the clutch slave cylinder, shifting linkage(should be 2 or 3 cables coming from the firewall, pretty easy to remove), and of course the transmission mounts. one on top and one on the bottom/sideish area towards the front of the car. I can't be for sure but they stick out like a sore thumb so you can figure those out. Be sure to have the trans supported when you remove these, they should be the last thing removed as it will put stress on the input shaft of the transmission and could seriously screw it up. The last thing you want is to have to replace the trans. With that supported, remove the perimeter bolts that connect the transmission to the engine block, they go around in a circle. I would also like to add that you may have to remove the starter, never worked on a solara so I'm not positive, it varies. By now the trans should have a clear exit and should be supported by either you or the jack, I us a jack that is parallel with the engine and transmission so it can be pulled out with the aide of the wheels. It probably weighs about 80lb at least so be careful or get some help. Once it's out, remove the clutch, you'll have to hold the flywheel and use a big 1/2 ratchet because the motor will turn over. Remove the flywheel, have it turned, just something smart to do whenever you got it down this far. Finally it's a good idea to remove the pilot bearing in the end of the crank shaft. Don't bother getting a pulller. Instead, get a dowel of some sort that is roughly the same diameter as the hole in the bearing, it's gotta be somewhat close. Next get a bunch of paper towels and a small bucket/bowl of water, drench the paper towels and stuff as many as you can in the hole. Keep packing it with the dowel until it's so tight you have to tap them in, this will force the bearing out. Now lube up the new one slightly, line it up and tap it in by putting a socket or something over top of it. Put flywheel back on being careful not to get grease on it at all. Seriously, if you can don't even touch the surface. Torque to spec. You have to you may screw it up if you don't. Reciprocating things should always be torqued to spec. Second, put on the clutch with the clutch alignment tool that is usually supplied. YOu do this by sticking the splined tool into the clutch disk and then putting it on the flywheel(remember which side says this side up), with the tip of the alignment tool in the pilot bearing it should stay so you can put the pressure plate over the clutch. Tighten in a star pattern and torque to spec. Tighten evenly, not all the way at once. Do like increments of 25ft/lbs. with the trans out, remove the axle seals, just yank em out, smear a little lub on the new ones and tap em in with a pipe, don't hit them directly because you could damage them, they need to be hit in the center so a socket or pipe with an end of sorts needs to be used. I once used a chain link fence post with a hatchet to tap on in. Now just button everything back up. It's a lot easier than it looks and I have no doubt anyone that knows how to use tools could do this. The haynes manual is somewhat helpful but not very much. You just have to be able to look at things and remember how everything went back together but typically things like this are made to go back together one way and one way only. Hope that helped.

How do I make the clutch lever easier to pull in?

How can I fix this? How do I make the clutch lever easier to pull in?have you tried lubing the cable? go to a bicycle store or dirt bike shop and get some cable lube with the plastic attachment for best results.the pivot on the handle could be sticky too.unless someone has changed the springs, that clutch should be pretty easy to pull. they used to make 'power handles %26quot; for that model, which were basically bent in such a way that you could get your hand around it for a small hand they are ok. also adjusting the controls and handlebars to fit you well, can make a bit of a difference. keeping the cable lubed will make it last longer too. look closely at the cable, near where it slides in and out of the sleeve,it may be coming apart, and binding in the sleeve or handle. some cables have a nylon coating between the cable and sleeve that wrinkles when it gets old, making the cable tight in the sleeve. How do I make the clutch lever easier to pull in?whatever you do to fix it will cost in preformance.... Although, someone may have installed heavy clutch springs. Putting in lighter springs will make it easier to pull the lever in, but will also drastically reduce the grip of the clutch(it may slip) For normal never abusive riding, the clutch will never slip though unless it is bad. If you are not getting on the throttle all the time, get some really light springs from a manufacturer such as barnett clutches, or try OEM. How much does it cost to replace a clutch on a Volvo S60R?

My S60R is leaking clutch fluid from transmission (I can see where it is coming out). Evidently not uncommon for this model. Evidently to find the leak means dismantling anyways and likely better off replacing entire clutch. Only 30,000 miles. UGHHHHow much does it cost to replace a clutch on a Volvo S60R?You are very fortunate to have covered 30K miles .

MIne covered 11k miles from brand new and the clutch shattered . This was replaced under warranty and another 11 k miles and the same thing happens with the outcome that though my car is still under warranty I had to pay for this . 800 Eur . The most odd thing is that this has always happened on the same day which is 20th February 2008 and 20th February 2009 with the exact milage .

Your problem is coming from the oil seals . Volvo gear boxes have a tendency of running hot through the emmision of the clutch . These clutches run hot and oil seals do not maintian the seal . Regretable to say that the whole unit has to be desmantled and all oil seal replaced . Whilst you are at it its best to have a look at the crankshaft oil seal . You will find this behind the fly wheel . Its best to replace it . There are certain bolts which you also have to replace and ensure that you tie these bolts according to the torque pressure specified .How much does it cost to replace a clutch on a Volvo S60R?Not uncommon? Knowing Volvo it will be very expensive!

How much does a hydraulic clutch cost to buy and install?

i have a 94' Toyota T100 pickup and i think the clutch needs to be replaced because when i try to put it in gear i feel like i have to force the stick in just get it to go. i feel this is so because the clutch may not be engaging all the way in, therefore making the shifting an almost excruciating task. now i wonder how much will it cost me, if it is indeed my clutch that needs work. How much does a hydraulic clutch cost to buy and install? There is something called a clutch master cylinder. If it's low on fluid this is your problem. It must be refilled and bled (similar to brakes). When clutches go, you can't move at all, no matter what gear you pick. If your master cylinder or slave cylinder or fluid line is leaking, get it fixed and off you go. None of these items are expensive. How much does a hydraulic clutch cost to buy and install?that truck is 12 years old, probally needs the clutch plate replaced. The only clutch plate I had ever replaced was a datsun frontwheel drive, It was fairly easy, didn't even need to jack it up off the floor. I have no clue about a toyota pick-up. good luck.

I would think that the hydralics just need to be serviced and/or bled after installing the clutch plate. How much does a hydraulic clutch cost to buy and install?Kit should be around $130-200 plus labor . have you checked the fluid level ? usually when your clutch is starting to go it will either want to pull when the clutch is in or not pull at all . • On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?

I saw a guy do this on his Jetta and he said that you don't need to use the clutch as long as your speed is matched properly with the gear.

Nothing bad happened when he did it, but how is this possible ?On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?yes you can do it ,its called speed shifting but its hard on a transmission if you don't know how to match the rpm,s up with the speed, you can easily loose a gear doing this,we use to do it in the old mopars and Chevy's when we was drag racing,it takes time to learn this though, other wise ,its bye bye transmission,be careful if you try this, good luck.On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?yes....

he already told you.....On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?ground speed and match rpm's i drive a semi truck and its how i shift all 13 gears on a car with a syncro mesh trans its easier and no damage until you grind them.On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?SURE, TRUCK DRIVERS HARDLY EVER USE THE CLUTCH. MATCH ENGINE RPM TO DRIVE SHAFT SPEED AND IT'LL FALL RIGHT INTO GEAR.On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?yeah he explained it very well.. bikes are the same way. when you have a car for so long you learn where thos points are by feel. you still it to use the clutch to take offOn a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch? It is possible, as you have seen.

You will damage the syncro rings if you are not right on with your speeds.

It is much better on the transmission to use the clutch.

Your transmission will thank you.On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?yes u can but it will damage your transmissionOn a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?Yup....I've done itOn a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?YES YOU CAN!! My husband does it all the time!! You just gotta match the RPMs just right or it won't work!!On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch? When you use the clutch it allows the transmission gears to slow down enough to engage the next gear. When you shift with out the clutch you need to attempt to match the engine speed with the transmission gear you intend to go into. The part inside the transmission called the synchronizer will assist but can not do it with out closely matching speeds. You have to be in motion to do this and some cars are easier than others to shift this way. If you want to shift down like 4th to 3rd, you would ease off the gas, pull it out of 4th, tap the gas pedal to bring rpms up a bit and slide shifter into 3rd.On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch? He reached the optimum engine speed for that particular gear.

Each gear change is based on the engine speed (so my dad told me) and it involves listening to the engine whine too. What the clutch apparently does is sort of bypass the needed speed, so it doesn't matter what the speed is. I'm sure there are mechanics around here can explain it properly, but you can do it. If you want to try it, listen to the engine noise, while GENTLY pushing on the gear shift (not enough to force it, but enough to release it should it hit the magic speed) You'll find your gear shift will slip into neutral and if you give it a little more pressure you can slip it into the next gear. I'm sure there's a technical term for it, but I haven't a clue what it is.On a manual transmission, can you shift gears without using the clutch?Yes, it not that hard to do and it doen't hurt the trans. You can feel it in the shifter when the gears are lined up. It will be easy to put into gear when they are aligned. If they aren't aligned, the shifter won't go into gear unless you force it.

You just need to get used to the car and you can do it. It's even easier with a motorcycle.

Can you give me some advice on how to change a clutch cable?

My bike is stranded and i need to replace the cable to move it.

    Honda VTX1300 2006.

I'm guessing the end that goes on the lifter is relatively simple but I have never looked at the clutch lever before.

Thanks for any help. Can you give me some advice on how to change a clutch cable?Good luck on push starting a vtx1300 anyway!

Put the cable in the handlebar side first, it's just a slip in end with a metal disc, and the cable routes thru the slit in the lever. Run the cable to the casing side, and you'll see the lever where the other side attaches. Use a flat head screwdriver to push the lever forward by hand, and slip the cable in the slot on the lever. When you let go of the lever, the slack will tighten up on the cable. Be sure you route the whole cable as the old one was, to insure theres no obsrtuctions, or pinching of the cable along the way. Adjust the cable at the bottom to take out any initial slack if needed, and do the final adjustments at the clutch lever adjuster. Can you give me some advice on how to change a clutch cable?np....glad to help! ride safe

Can you give me some advice on how to change a clutch cable?its fairly straight forward, it just has and end piece to clip it on. you dont actually need the clutch to get it home. just get a rolling start and click it in to gear. and get neutral before you stop. its easy enough. Can you give me some advice on how to change a clutch cable? One tip ?do the routing before you take your old cable out.

How to tighten up an motorcycle clutch?

I have an 88 Ducati 750 Paso whose clutch is very loose-when I'm holding the clutch down and the bike is on 1st gear, the bike goes. I'm trying to play around with the screws at the end of the clutch cable, but no matter what I do the clutch is still loose. If anyone can help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. How to tighten up an motorcycle clutch? Most of the time when a bike moves forward while the clutch is in,the clutch basket is shot...it will have clutch plate grooves in it...wear mark's..The play/slack at your clutch hand lever..you should be able to fit a nickel in the gap when you first start to pull it in..before the cable starts to move..you don't want your cable tight..just a little slack...your adjustment should be at the lever/cable..How to tighten up an motorcycle clutch? There are usually two adjustments for the clutch cable. One is at the lever and one is at the point where the cable going into the clutch. Adjust the cable first at the lever. If it is out all the way the adjust the cable at the point of entry into the clutch (Adjustments to tighten clutch are usually to loosen the screws.) If both are at maximum then is is possible that the clutch cable has stretched. Before opening the clutch check your adjustments. With a bike the age of yours, I would not be surprised if that cable has just stretched too much.

How to replace the clutch master cylinder in an 86 Fiero?

The clutch master cylinder in my Fiero died last week and now I have to replace it. I think I might have an idea on how to do it but any advice anyone from someone with experience would be greatly appreciated. How to replace the clutch master cylinder in an 86 Fiero?Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Disconnect the cylinder pushrod at the clutch pedal.

Disconnect and plug the hydraulic line at the master cylinder.

Remove the nuts attaching the cylinder to the cowl, then remove the cylinder.

    To install:

Position the cylinder pushrod through the cowl and loosely install the cylinder-to-cowl nuts.

Connect the cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal with the spring clip.

Tighten the cylinder-to-cowl nuts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).

Connect the hydraulic line to the master cylinder and torque it to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).

Fill the clutch master cylinder with the recommended fluid.

When the hydraulic portion of the clutch system has been opened, air enters the system and has to be removed before proper operation can be restored. Use the following procedures to bleed the clutch hydraulic system.

Fill the fluid reservoir directly from a can of unused Delco Supreme No. 11 brake fluid or equivalent. Do not use the old fluid because old fluid is contaminated with moisture and dirt which may damage the hydraulic system.

Remove the floor mat or any other object that may obstruct the full stroke of the clutch pedal.

Unscrew the bleeder screw at the slave cylinder enough to allow fluid to be pumped out (1/2 - 1 full turn).

Push the clutch pedal down through the full stroke.

Have an assistant close the bleeder while the pedal is still fully extended. Allow the pedal to return quickly to its stop (with the bleeder Closed).

Repeat this procedure until no air bubbles can be seen in the fluid.

Does a clutch burn when you apply gas and slowly release the clutch?

I am learning how to drive manual transmission and need to know if the clutch burns when you are taking off if you give it a bit of gas first and then start to release the clutch?

Also what way is it better to take off?

    1) Release the clutch a bit and then give it gas and than continue to release the clutch slowly?

    2) Give it a bit of gas first and then start to release the clutch?

Thanks, the more answers I get the better!Does a clutch burn when you apply gas and slowly release the clutch? The following relates to starting from a standstill in low gear. Shifting gears usually doesn't require pressing the gas pedal until after the clutch is engaged.

A clutch always suffers a small amount of wear no matter how smoothly you release the pedal, but the least wear comes from giving no gas. The problem with that idea is the engine may stall. You can practice with your particular car to see what it takes. Some cars will stall; others won't. I always use the technique of letting out the clutch pedal a bit before giving any gas. When the clutch is not moving, the sudden contact with a fast spinning pressure plate will cause slipping and wear. If the clutch makes contact with a slow spinning pressure plate, it will start spinning. Then the increasing speed of the pressure plate as you give the engine gas will make the clutch spin faster.

In more than forty years of driving manual shift cars, I have had very few clutch problems.

How to change a clutch in a 1992 prelude?

need to change clutch on a 192 prelude wana do it my self anyone tell me how?How to change a clutch in a 1992 prelude?Replacing the clutch on a front wheel drive vehicle is much more difficult then you would think. Definitely get a Chilton's manual and follow it step by step. Along with the complete meteric tool set mentioned earlier make sur you have plenty of extensions.

I personally find it easier to pull the engine and transmission together, change the clutch on the floor and reinstall the egine/trans. If you haven't done a clutch before front or rear wheel drive, then this may be one that you want to allow a shop to do.

If you do choose to go ahead yourself use a Chilton's, the steps are much too involved to describe.

Good LuckHow to change a clutch in a 1992 prelude?your best bet is get a chilton repair manual for your vehicle's year make and model and follow the directions VERY carefully. its an involved process to remove and replace the clutch. first thing you need to do is get the vehicle onto jack stands, remove the wheels, front drive shafts, with a transmission jack or (small floor jack), under the transmission, separate the transmission from the motor. the clutch sits inside the bell housing that attaches the motor to the transmission. and you might want to think about getting a full set of metric end wrenches, metric sockets, a few screw drivers,( flat head and phillips heads) and a few pliers (regular and needle nose), a pry bar and a good hammer because your gonna need them, or you can take it to a shop, someone you trust and let them do it.How to change a clutch in a 1992 prelude?Hey, that's my car! you bought it. i just changed the clutch two years ago. To tell you step-by-step is impossible here. Get a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual and follow instructions carefully. you should be ok if you're a mechanically inclined person. don't forget to get yourself a clutch alignment tool. you must align the clutch.

  • How many pounds of force do you need to pull the clutch cable in a car ?

In terms of pulling force needed to disengage the clutch (like pushing the clutch pedal down) But I need to know how much force on the cable, not the pedal. Pretend there is no clutch pedal and you have to pull in the clutch cable with your hands.

Roughly how much would it be a:

    Honda Accord/Camry 6cyl

    Ford Mustang/Pontiac GXP

    Audi RS4/Bmw M3

    Porsche 911 Turbo/ Ferrari F430?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!How many pounds of force do you need to pull the clutch cable in a car ?in trade auto class they teach the ratio is about 6 to 1.

so if that is true and it takes 30 lbs to push the pedal then

    its about 180 lbs.

spring clutches are worse on trucks (bear trap)

one can find out exactly by measuring the arm on both sides of the clutch pivit (of the pedal assy) and then divide the two measurements.

    like 2 inches and 12 would be 6 to 1 .

then using a compression scale measure the pedal pressure.

then multiply by 6 and you have an very accurate measurment.

or crawl under car with fish scale and pull real hard on clutch pivot with a come-a-long.

more difficult ( impossible for fluid hyd. cylinder clutch)

    hope I have helped.

How can I get my clutch to get pressure and pump new fluid?

I bled out the clutch fluid, and replaced the clutch cylinder, clutch master cylinder and the hydrolic lines but now the clutch its too soft and its not pumping the new fluid thru. I checked for leaks and I dont see none. What shoud I do?????How can I get my clutch to get pressure and pump new fluid?Did you prime the cylinder ? If not you need to keep bleeding until it gets harder. Make sure your bleeding it properly .

    1) Pump pump pump

    2) Open the nipple

    3) depress clutch and hold

    4) close nipple

    5) repeat steps 1-4

Or use self bleeding kit .

  • How much would I be looking at to get my clutch plates replaced?

I have a 5 spd 1990 ford ranger and my clutch is wearing out on me, because I let to many newbies learn to drive a stick in it. how much will it cost to get it fixed? How much would I be looking at to get my clutch plates replaced?it is always a good idea to replace the pressure plate and throwout bearing when replacing the clutch in any vehicle due to the wear the clutch has placed on the pressure plate and the wear on the throwout bearing from all the shifting which has been done up until the failure of the clutch. i just completed a 1990 ranger clutch job and it cost $350.00 without my labor for the kit to replace all the parts i just spoke of.it was also an upgrade to a tougher racing application which will last longer and be stronger. How much would I be looking at to get my clutch plates replaced? A new clutch for a ford ranger should run about $ 300.00 bucks +-

How much would I be looking at to get my clutch plates replaced?Realistically, thats an easy clutch to do, but look up the shop hours in the standard book the mechanics use to estimate jobs. Probably a four hour job times his hourly rate, plus parts. You are looking at 4-5 hundred.

Please help, How do i change the clutch cable on my peugeot 205 turbo diesel?

    Hey,

My clutch cable has just gone on my car, and i have just ordered the correct part, and should be with me in a few days. I really need help about how to change the cable, any links to websites would be extremely helpful, or any methods described on here.

It is the clutch cable, as i can start the car and drive along in 1st, but the pedal is just dead.

Thanks very muchPlease help, How do i change the clutch cable on my peugeot 205 turbo diesel? One answerer here has NEVER looked at a 205 engine. Let him rip out your gearbox! Your cable connects pedal and CLUTCH release lever, NOT gearbox.

Another answerer is correct, buy a book.

The clutch pedal is easily fed through the firewall (engine-passenger wall). There will be a rubber plug that comes out. And a round ball on the cable that fits into the rubber plug.

The hardest part is attaching it to the clutch pedal. But, when you remove the old one, you can see what is involved.

Since it is only a few paragraphs in the HAYNES MANUAL #0932, page 6-2, I will reproduce it for you now.

    CLUTCH CABLE removal and refitting:

    1. Slacken the locknut and adjuster nut on the end of the cable.

    2. Release the cable end fitting from the intermediate lever and recover the pushrod. (yikes! you may have lost the pushrod along the road somewhere?? the pedal will be 'dead' due to this loss)

    3. Working inside the car, remove the lower facia panel from under the steering column.

    4. Pull off the spring clip and remove the clevis pin from the top of the clutch pedal to disconnect the cable end. Acess is limited, and on some models it is easier if the pedal is removed to disconnect the cable end.

    5. Release the cable from the bulkhead (firewall) and withdraw it into the engine compartment.

    REFITTING:

    6. Refitting is the reversal of removal. On completion, adjust the clutch pedal stroke as described in Chapter 1.

    7. (my brief explanation of Chapter 1...pedal stroke from carpet to upper pedal limit should be 14 cm +/- 0.5 cm as measured from the base of the STEERING WHEEL ).Please help, How do i change the clutch cable on my peugeot 205 turbo diesel?you should see a mechanic about this because it is in a way foolish to toy with a car if you dont know what to do. If the pedal is gone then you might not need a clutch cable because the cable is the thing that hooks the gear box to the pedal so it might have just come loose. there are 3 ways to do this:

    1. rip out the underneath near the pedals and feed it through there.

    2. rip out the gear box and feed it through.

    3. make your way through the long and tangled jungle of pipes and cylinders under the hood and connect it at the back. Please help, How do i change the clutch cable on my peugeot 205 turbo diesel?Buy your self a auto. repair Book.

Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?

I understand how the manual transmission works on my car now, but that brought me to this question, how do you wear out the clutch? The videos someone directed me to showed what causes it, friction, but not how you yourself make that friction. Is it too much clutch over long periods of time, too little? My clutch is fine, but it brought me to the question of could I be driving my car better? Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch? You wear the clutch out by uneven gear changing. If your a woman, you should change smoothly, and evenly.Letting your car be used by another person, say a man, will add wear to your clutch.Different foot pressures add to clutch wear. Also you need to keep the clutch fluid topped up, so learn where you do that on your engine.Use your gears correctly.Start from neutral into first, then second, third etc, and come down same way, but don't drop to a lower gear too quickly. Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch? All right, now your clutch has a friction lining on it to make it spin at the same rate as the pressure plate and flywheel. Over time, as you start, shift, and stop, the lining wears off, thusly wearing out the clutch. Hard starts (peeling out in other words), will wear the clutch out even faster. Easier driving will significantly increase the life of your clutch. Moreover, when your clutch does finally wear out, replace all of the following: clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing. That should make things go much smoother when you need to have that work performed. Thanks for reading, and hope this helps. Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?I drive a stick and wore my first clutch out fast.

Don't push in the clutch when you are slowing down. I used to push it in if I was simply taking a corner.

Don't accelerate to hard, as in peeling out hard with the clutch half way in, its fun but it was my down fall.

Don't Keep it in at stop lights and the such

In some cars you can take the car our of gear with out using the clutch at all, some cars this is a horrible Idea so check first. Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?Only use your clutch for moving up and down the gears.

Some people use it to aid braking by 'dropping' a gear which does put a strain on it !

And don't ride the clutch either !

Once you have changed gear take your foot off the pedal.

Happy Motoring :-DNow that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?keep your foot off the clutch when you are driveingNow that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?Riding the clutch is a good example of ways to wear it out. %26quot;Riding the clutch%26quot; is when you hold it at friction point while accelerating instead of using your break to keep the car stationary. (Like when you're on a hill, and you use to friction between gears to keep your car almost moving forward, but not quite, instead of just putting the handbrake on and doing a hill start).

Also, try to use the clutch only when necessary - don't linger on the friction point when you're changing gears, just let the clutch out as soon as you can to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.

Hope this helps :-)Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch? Here you go, The clutch becomes worn out due to the removal of your left foot off the clutch and as your right foot hits the gas. If your on the gas before your left foot is removed, you are burning your clutch. That summons it up in laments terms. If you see your RPM gauge move up without the engagement of your gearing you are burning your clutch. During a red light, if you gun the gas, and then release the clutch to cause a tire burn out, you are deffinately burning your clutch. On import cars the clutch lasts till around 135,000 miles. On domestic it lasts 85,000-110,000 depending on your driving skills.

When you engage gears on the road you will feel a jerk of the engine inbetween shifting. Its not bad, if its minor. Keep in mind that your shifting if not done with ease will cause your motor mounts to wear out. Those mounts are worn due to hard shifting, or not at the correct times.

Some cars come with a built in shift guidance system to tell you when to shift, these systems are trully junk, they are made for best fuel economy.

For best mileage shift at 2300 RPM's, keep in mind you can shift at 6400 RPMS if you choose as well. THis will not burn your clutch, just drink more fuel. The most common forms of burning your clutch is waiting at stop lights, when it turns green, running your RPM's to 4500+ and letting go of the clutch. Just spend lots of time with your car, and listen to the engine, it will talk to you, while letting you know when to shift.

As an extra, just so you know, all manuals are built with safety devices to keep you from blowing your engine. You can floor it all you want in any gear, and your cars computer will keep anything from harming itself.

Nothing will be better than practice, i'm glad your driving a clutch

-BelkinNow that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?basicly friction comes from excesive use of the clutch itself. Two things, one dont ride the clutch while on the road. Two, try not to down shift, thats what the brakes are for, to slow down the car.Now that I have the manual tranny thing worked out...How do you wear out your clutch?Anything mechanical is subject to wear--things do just get old and break down. What will wear your clutch down fast is keeping your foot on the clutch when driving--just get going and keep your foot off the pedal--that is called %26quot;Riding the clutch%26quot; and will prematurely wear it down. The clutch is also connected to rods and bearings that can also wear out--when you get it repaired it generally needs a lot of parts replaced.

How do I know if my clutch is about to go out?

I bought a car about a week ago and everyone keeps telling im going to burn the clutch out, with that said after i learned how to drive the car, when i press the clutch or release it squeaks (while car is off)

When the car is on it squeaks a little as i release, is it a bad sign? How do I know if my clutch is about to go out?Squeaking when you push the pedal is a sign of nothing

    You'll know it when the clutch goes. It will slip. slip means you are doing 30 mph and you push the gas to go to 40 mph. The engine goes up to 4000 rpm but the car doesn't go and faster;

Nomally the car would accelerate but because the clutch is slipping the engine doesn't speed up the wheels. You'll know it when it happens.

Everyone is just giving you a hard time. They are cold and timid souls who are afraid to drive a stick.

Go for it dude. Don't worry what they say.How do I know if my clutch is about to go out?if there is continuous squeaking when you press the clutch pedal down this is probably a clutch bearing going, if it is just a single squeak something needs a shot of spray lube especially if it squeaks when the engine is turned off

clutches cables can be a problem find the squeak with the bonnet (aka Hood in USA) open or get a pal to listen near the pedals

If the engine slows when you press clutch down this is more serious

If you get any smell of burning or loss of speed when climbing steep hills get your wallet out unless there isa simple clearance adjuster that needs adjustingHow do I know if my clutch is about to go out?Its just the pedal squeaking, spray it. When it starts to wear out, it will slip, as you step on the gas you will hear the engine rpms pick up as it slips.. wait till you have a dead bat. or starter one day and you have them give you a push, turn it on, put it in gear, and pop the clutch and Bingo it starts and You go home. How do I know if my clutch is about to go out?No. The pivot point on the pedal where the push-rod attaches is squeaking. A shot of silicone lubricant on that point will take care of it. Life is good. How do I know if my clutch is about to go out?not enough info. might be an internal squeak which is bad or just a pedal squeak a few drops of oil will fix.How do I know if my clutch is about to go out?Get an automatic and forget the stick shift

I wanted to know what needs to be replaced or fixed and about how much it would cost me.What needs to be fixed or replaced if the clutch on my 2003 yz 125 is pulling? You might just need to adjust the clutch cable or the clutch throw. If the clutch discs are dragging because they are warped or not disengaing properly for some otehr reason, then you need a new clutch pack. What needs to be fixed or replaced if the clutch on my 2003 yz 125 is pulling?Look at the clutch lever. I have a 2007 ram 2500 with a 6 speed and a 5.9L cummins. The clutch started to slip today and I was wondering what it cost for a clutch kit and about what it should cost to have a kit or maybe just a clutch plate put in it. ThanksHow much to have a clutch put in a 2007 Ram 2500 cummins? You should replace the entire clutch. Check out South Bend Clutch. They make absolutely remarkable clutches for a good price. Are you leaving your truck with stock power output? Or are you modifying for more power? They have 3 levels of single disk clutches. The Con-O is the entry level, the mid level is the Con-OFE and the best single disk they offer is the Con-FE. I had an FE, and it is a very grabby clutch. You can tell a noticeable difference in engagement with it vs a stock clutch. However, that clutch held to 526 rear wheel horsepower, rated to 550. I don't remember if the ratings are flywheel or rear wheel, but I have heard people running more than 600 rear wheel horsepower with the FE.

As for cost, you should be able to find an FE for about 800-900 dollars. I paid 200 to have mine installed by a friend who normally charges 300 dollars. Pricing for the lower level clutches should be on South Bend's site, but that is probably the MSRP or MAP pricing, which is minimum advertised price. You can likely find a better deal by buying through a vendor if you become a member of a truck/diesel forum. I'll list some below.

How do i change the clutch cable on my 2003 rm125?

my cable at the moment is very tight so i bought a new clutch cable but dont know how to put it on ... do i have 2 drain any clutch oil or anything? what do i do. thanks. How do i change the clutch cable on my 2003 rm125?draining oil is not a requirement when changing out a clutch cable.

before installing the new cable you will of course have to take the old one off.to do this you will want to start at the engine where the clutch arm is where the cable hooks to,the end of the cable that is attached to the clutch arm should look like a Miniature barrel..there should also be a slot in the clutch arm where the cable slides through.you will have to probably move the clutch arm towards you so that you can persuade the cable through the slot.you will want to unloosen any nuts that's holding the cable in place before you go any further.now that you have one end of the cable taken care of you'll want to move up towards the left of the handle bars where your clutch perch is where the threads in to.screw the bolt at the end of the cable out from the perch, once this is done you'll be able to line up the cable with the slot grooves in the perch and lever.now, you'll notice if you look underneath the clutch lever that the end of the clutch cable again looks like a miniature barrel, after lining up the cable with the slots you'll be able to pull the cable through.now that you have the old cable out you can replace the new one by doing this procedure in reverse order as explained.

    good luck

How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?

I have to change the clutch in my 1997 Volkwagen Jetta GLX VR6--have instructions but it doesn't say if I have to drop the engine or not? Any other viable information you may have is also appreciated. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?On my 1999.5 Jetta TDI (quite different, I know) I had to drop the transmission but not the engine. I did this with the car on rhino ramps, and getting the transmission back up was extremely difficult to do by myself. I was not able to do it from beneath, so I ended up standing in front of the car, leaning waaaaaay forward and lifting the tranny into place. This was probably not the best thing I could have done for my back.

On www.tdiclub.com there is a good 100-page guide, with a photo on every page. It's a free download, but you'll have to search through the forums for a little bit to find it. Go to an auto parts store and buy a chilton manual. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?No, you don't need to drop the whole power train. You will need to hang 1sh the engine though because you will need to loosen the front pendulum mount and the back trans mount. I personally will not do this repair on the floor. It's a two person job to drop the trans. because you will need to tilt the back at 1 o'clock then drop or it get caught on the sub frame. How to change the clutch in a 1997 Volkswagen VW Jetta GLX VR6?Go to your library and look at the Haynes manual, or better yet buy one.

You have to remove the transmission to be able to replace the slave cylinder! Might as well do a new clutch while your in there, so you don't have to take tranny out again when it's due. Don't know about cost...depends on if you do a clutch and slave and labor to remove and replace tranny.

How to Adjust the Clutch pedal on a 1995 Acura Integra?

I have a 1995 Acura Integra and the clutch pedal is loose. I'm having a hard time putting it into gear because the clutch pedal isn't grabing all the way. How do i adjust the pedal from under the dash board? How to Adjust the Clutch pedal on a 1995 Acura Integra? There is an adjustment at the clutch pedal. It is pretty obvious if you look at it.

However, I don't think it came out of adjustment. There is plenty of throw on the pedal even if it isn't adjusted right. There are two possibilities - bad hydraulic cylinders or a dragging clutch. The cylinders are easy to check because they always leak when they fail. Look for fluid under the boot of the slave cylinder on the transmission and for fluid on the inside of the firewall, right where the clutch pedal adjustment is.

If both locations are dry, the clutch is probably dragging. That shows up as difficulty getting it in any gear, but more difficulty with lower gears than with upper gears. Reverse is also balky, with the gears grinding until you force it. That is caused by friction between the clutch disk and the flywheel, or pressure plate, or both, when the clutch is disengaged. The root cause is usually friction between the clutch disk splines and the input shaft or springs that have broken out of their cages. In any case, clutch replacement is necessary to fix it.

How long can I hold down the clutch while I am pressing the gas on a stick shift?

I am just starting out, learning how to drive on a stick shift. I was just wondering when you start the car and it starts to pull and you give it gas. how slowly can I let the clutch out before problems start happening? How long can I hold down the clutch while I am pressing the gas on a stick shift?Problems don't start when you let the clutch out too slowly; all that does is prevent the full power of the engine crankshaft from reaching the wheels. As long as the tachometer is below the engine red line, you should be fine although you'll use more fuel. Problems start when you let the clutch out too quickly; this puts the rotation of the crankshaft and the wheels in sync and stalls the engine if the car isn't moving.

You need to fully depress the clutch when you turn the ignition, then put it in first gear (or reverse) and release the parking brake while keeping your other foot on the brake pedal.

If you're on a fairly level surface, then ease your foot off the brake and slowly release pressure from the clutch. You don't need to give any gas at this point. As you feel the gears begin to catch, the car will slowly begin to move and you will notice the RPM gauge slightly decrease as there is more load on the engine. Practice this in an empty parking lot until you can start and drive consistently without stalling.

It's a bit tricker when you're stopped on an incline (you'll need to give some gas at the same time to prevent the car from rolling), which is why it's helpful to learn on a flat surface so that you can get used to the car and at what pedal pressure the clutch catches the gears.

It also helps to examine a diagram of the gearbox and transmission so you can understand exactly what the car is doing when you depress the clutch. How long can I hold down the clutch while I am pressing the gas on a stick shift? There are two possible ways that what you're talking about could hurt your car. One way is that you'll over-rev the engine. Now, most cars have a rev limiter - that means that if you floor the gas with the clutch pushed in, the engine will rev up to its redline and the computer won't let it rev any higher. But, some cars don't have this, and if you rev the engine too fast, it could be damaged. Your car should have a tachometer, and as long as the needle's not in the red part, you're not hurting the car - just wasting gas. ;) The other way you could hurt your car is that if you rev the engine too fast and let off the clutch too slowly, you'll wear out the clutch lining and eventually have to replace the clutch (not cheap!). You;ll know if this is happening, though, 'cause you'll smell it. It's a very distinctive smell that's hard to describe. Kinda like burning pennies, maybe.

    Otherwise, your car is fine.

You'll get the hang of it.How long can I hold down the clutch while I am pressing the gas on a stick shift?at first i couldent drive stick then my driving instructor told me to try in reverse, and that did it. i dont know how but it did. the only thing i could think of would be weariing down the clutch faster, but since your new you will probably do that anyways. just take things easy until you really get the hang of it.

    Transmission $1600 to $1800 new

Pressing clutch down on 2007 Saturn Ion causes disturbing squeak noise. How can I lube it to stop the noise?

The car is fantastic otherwise, but the dry rubbing sound makes me nuts. It has the same sound when letting up the clutch. Car still has 6K left on full warranty, but dealer is not anxious to disassemble under the dashboard just to stop the noise. And I do not blame him. I tried spraying WD40, but almost impossible to get the spray unto the noisy part. Is there any other solution besides demanding that dealer take car apart and apply grease?Pressing clutch down on 2007 Saturn Ion causes disturbing squeak noise. How can I lube it to stop the noise?Ouch!! The noise must be annoying!

If the noise is coming from the clutch pedal joint in the car I would recommend a product I which I represent. The product is called Jig-a-Loo and its main selling feature is that it is non-greasy, silicone-based product which doesn檛 stain or stink.

Jig-a-Loo lubricates and eliminates squeaks. Just spray some on your pedal joint with the help of the little straw!

Otherwise, if the noise is coming from the clutch cable mechanism in transmission... I think it is garage time!!

  • Apart from gear changing, what is the purpose of the clutch and how do you use it?

I've had a few lessons and I get that I need to press it when I change gears, that bit makes sense to me

However, I am confused with how and what it does for the rest of it, and what I need to do?

Like whenever I start, I have to press the clutch and the gas pedal?

And the whole clutch up too much or down too much or something and it rolls and at a certain point it just stays still? Can someone explain please?Apart from gear changing, what is the purpose of the clutch and how do you use it?Imagine if you will, two plastic CDs , take one in one hand and another in your other hand.

Insert one CD AGAINST the other and pressing until a turning force can be exerted from one CD to the other.

the energy implied to one CD has now exerted a force upon the other and you have created a hand made clutch.

Hence the force generated by a cars engine is transmitted to the gearbox via a clutch.

The transmission is engine, clutch, gearbox, the clutch being spring loaded to return to the engaged position when the foot releases the pedal.

The purpose of the clutch is to disengage the engine from the gearbox allowing the gears to be selected when the correct ratio of engine speed to road speed has been aligned correctly for the conditions that the vehicle is facing; I.E. up hill slog or a down hill controlled movement or indeed any other road condition which may require a gear change.

Gear changes are made to reduce the load on the engine and increase efficiency.Apart from gear changing, what is the purpose of the clutch and how do you use it?The clutch disengages power from the engine to the transmission so that you can change gears without ending up with little metal shavings everywhere and damaging your vehicle.

To start your vehicle, you do not hold the gas. You press the clutch all the way in and turn the ignition, thats it. It is difficult for a motor to start when it is already doing work while it is starting, So vehicles wont let you start unless the clutch is in.

Yes, if the car is in first gear and you are at a stop, at a certain point when releasing the clutch your car will move slowly forward without having to give any gas. Many people refer to this as the catching point in the clutch. It is at that point in the clutch where you should have some bit of gas on while releasing or you will cause bouncing, stalling etc...

If you are on a hill, the car will always roll while the clutch is engaged. Since there is no power being transferred from the motor to the transmission, the wheels will freely move whichever way gravity pulls the car untill power transfer starts.Apart from gear changing, what is the purpose of the clutch and how do you use it?You have to have the clutch/break in to start the car (not the gas), but aside from that it is only used for shifting up/down gears.Apart from gear changing, what is the purpose of the clutch and how do you use it?the clutch is used to seperate the engine from the transmission. when you have the clutch in, no power is going to the wheels. when you start, you let the clutch out and give it gas so you can move without stalling.

How do I tell if my clutch is slipping?

I know this is probably a dumb question but how do you know? It was slightly wet on the ground the other day and I was cruising around in second gear and then gunned it from about 3k rpm. The engine revved very very quickly to about 5500 but the car didn't go anywhere. I was thinking did my tires not hook up or something? To test this, get the car into high gear going up a long steep incline traveling at a speed that puts you at about 1200 rpm. Now floor it without down shifting. I do that by using a single edge razor blade with a new blade and carefully scraping off all old gasket and any other residue on both mating surfaces. Then wipe surfaces with lacquer thinner or rubbing alcohol and wipe dry. Gasket sealer was not used when newly assembled and I did not use it when replacing the primary cover. How do you properly put a clutch cover gasket on a honda dirtbike?I remember these XR75s.

First, make certain both surfaces are squeaky clean. Next, purchase a non-hardening gasket cement such as Permatex #2. Apply a thin coat to clutch cover. Then apply the gasket. Apply a thin coat to the engine case. I let the cement sit for about 5 to 10 minutes to get a little tacky. Then bolt the cover to the engine casing. That's how I apply gaskets to my motorcycle and large industrial gear boxes.

Good LuckHow do you properly put a clutch cover gasket on a honda dirtbike?Lay the bike on its side, turn the wheel fully to the right, and rest the end of the bar on a small stand or stool so the bike is propped up using the bar end as leverage, clutch cover side up, wipe all the excess gasket sealer from the case, and clean it free of oil residue. I usually fit the gasket to the cover and run the bolts through the holes and set it down on the engine. The bolts will keep the gasket from falling off, and keep it straight. Tap all the bolts in finger tight, and then progressively tighten them in a crossed pattern so the case goes on completely straight. Make sure the bolts are torqued to spec using a small torque wrench.

  • Does a centrifugal clutch go on the engine or the rear axel?

I have a 4 hp snowblower engine with a belt drive attachment on it's axel. I was wondering this because a go kart site has clutches with 10-12 teeth, which smaller sprockets are suppose to go on the axel, in order to generate more speed. If a clutch goes on the engine, how do I take this piece off. Lastly, how much better is chain drive than belt drive?Does a centrifugal clutch go on the engine or the rear axel?First off ; the centrifugal clutch goes on the engine output shaft, normally has set screws to attach it. The smaller gear goes onto the clutch and the larger onto the drive wheels this give you a speed reduction but an increase in torque, at the drive wheel. A chane drive is used because there is less possibility for slippage in the drive train.

Can someone please describe how to remove this and provide any other details as to how to make a golf cart go faster - with or without buying new parts. How do I remove the Centrifugal Clutch from a Golf Cart? The clutch is just a clutch. What limits your speed is the engine and gearing. If you change the gearing, you will change the speed. The clutch is just on or off.How do I remove the Centrifugal Clutch from a Golf Cart? While you can't get more speed out of the clutch you can get more low-end torque (power) by adding an after-market spring to the clutch. In order to remove the clutch you'll need a wheel-puller.

How much would it be for labor to put in a clutch?

I am trying to get a guess about how much it would probubly be to have a clutch put in. Just the clutch no flywheel or nothing else. Just the extra parts that come with the clutch kit. It is a manual 1998 gsr transmission. Thanks to whoever answers. How much would it be for labor to put in a clutch?Depends if you have a backyard mechanic or friend do it, or local corner garage, or a big time car dealer. Obviously, the big time car dealer will charge you enough to pay for a new car.

I'm guessing that it might cost you $200, maybe less. But I would suggest that if you're changing the clutch, then consider doing the whole thing, such as throwout bearing, etc. (NOT the flywheel; that's pretty massive!!) I screwed myself years ago by not doing that, and then had to fix the throwout bearing.....months after I had changed the clutch plate out. But I assume that when you say %26quot;extra parts from clutch kit,%26quot; that might cover those things.

Easiest would be to go to yellow pages, check your local area, and just call and ask for prices. Average hour prices for mechanics are $60-80, depending upon where you live. When you drive around your home area, don't you see garages in your area? Just stop and ask for prices. Sometimes neighborhood garages are better, because they don't have to make the profits that the national chains do.

Easiest way to see if it's a good mechanic, if there's always lots of cars going thru the place, then it must do a good job.How much would it be for labor to put in a clutch?Your looking at about 3.5-4 hours and the average mechanic charges 65-85 dollars and hourHow much would it be for labor to put in a clutch?Joseph c is correct.
